Can High Current Density HTS Magnets be Quench Protected Using Methods Used to Protect High Current Density LTS Magnets?

In the 1970s Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) was testing high current density magnets where EJ 2 limit up to two orders of magnitude higher than quench protection methods period would permit at time. LBL designing a (J) thin solenoid with large volume and stored energy (E). The accepted time ?10 xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">23 J A m xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">?4 . order exceed by magnitude, one had greatly increase voltages (V) magnet (I). 1977, tested four on 2-meter diameter 2 MJ. Three these worked well, but fourth didn't appear work. These will be discussed as whether they can applied HTS or MgB 2 magnets.
